Sewage treatment in leaching wastewater treatment plants is comparable to natural processes occurring in the environment.

The system is comprised of a single- or multi-chamber septic tank (with a filter at the outlet to protect against silting), distribution well and leaching.

Sedimentation, flotation and anaerobic fermentation processes occur in the septic tank. On passing through the filter, the pre-treated sewage is drained by the distribution well to the infiltration bed.

In the bed, the sewage is treated by means of aerobic biological and chemical processes. The infiltration bed can be made traditionally, i.e. of stones of 20 to 50 mm or of special tunnels. Leaching tunnels have a suitable structure ensuring proper aeration of waste which is necessary for the development of biological film, responsible for proper sewage treatment.

A leaching wastewater treatment plant made with tunnels allows the plant to be installed on a small area and allows for a significant reduction in the labour consumption of the investment. Only such methods enable proper sewage treatment in leaching systems.
